Center-QB-RB Handoff Chain

Ball Carryingbeginner10 min3+ players

Description

Getting the handoff chain right eliminates fumbles and ensures the RB is at full speed when they receive the ball. This drill isolates the full exchange so every player in the chain can master their role before the play gets more complex.

Instructions

  1. Line up a Center, QB, and RB in proper formation.
  2. Center snaps to QB (under center or shotgun).
  3. QB pivots quickly toward the RB's assigned side.
  4. RB approaches at full speed with a target basket (inside arm up, outside arm down).
  5. QB firmly places the ball into the RB's belly.
  6. RB tucks and runs through the designated hole.
  7. Rotate positions.

Points to Stress

  • RB: create a basket — inside arm up, outside arm down.
  • QB: place the ball firmly — don't toss it.
  • RB should be at full speed when receiving — not standing still waiting for it.
  • QB: keep two hands on the ball until the exchange is sealed.
