Static Moves Drill

Ball Carryingbeginner10 min2+ players

Description

Before expecting evasive moves at full game speed, players need to build the muscle memory in a controlled setting. Static Moves gives ball carriers the reps to groove jukes, spins, and cuts without the chaos of live defense.

Instructions

  1. Set up 3-4 cones in a line, 3-4 yards apart.
  2. Runner starts at one end with flags on.
  3. Defender positions themselves near the cones.
  4. Runner moves through the cones, making one small evasive move at each cone (juke, spin, or cut).
  5. Defender tries to pull the flag at each cone.
  6. Rotate after each rep.

Points to Stress

  • Make your move decisive — hesitation gets your flag pulled.
  • One clean move per cone — do not chain 5 fakes.
  • Set up your move early, not at the last second.
  • Defender: be controlled — this is a learning drill, not a full-speed competition.
