Pursuit Drill (Angle of Pursuit)
Flag Pullingintermediate15 min6+ players
Description
The most common defensive mistake in flag football is chasing a ball carrier from behind instead of cutting them off. This drill breaks that habit by forcing defenders to visualize and execute the correct pursuit angle.
Instructions
- Ball carrier starts at one hash, angling toward the sideline.
- Defenders line up on the opposite side.
- On the signal, ball carrier runs toward the sideline corner.
- Defenders must pursue and cut off the ball carrier.
- Wrong angle = ball carrier escapes. Right angle = flag pull.
Points to Stress
- Run to where they're GOING — not where they are.
- Flatten your angle as they approach the sideline — they have to cut back or go out.
- Don't sprint behind them — that's a lost rep.
- Communicate with teammates to cut off both directions.
