Post / Corner Route Drill

Route Runningintermediate15 min2+ players

Description

Post and corner routes attack the deep part of the field and require precise timing between QB and WR. This drill develops the footwork to sell a go-route before breaking — and trains QBs to throw with anticipation on deep patterns.

Instructions

  1. WR lines up at the LOS.
  2. WR runs hard vertical for 8-10 yards.
  3. WR plants and breaks toward the goalpost (post) or the corner (corner).
  4. QB throws with anticipation — ball is in the air before WR completes the break.
  5. Alternate post and corner each rep.

Points to Stress

  • Sell the go-route first — the defender has to respect your speed.
  • Plant and cut on your outside foot.
  • QB: back shoulder on corner, lead inside on post.
  • Throw it while they're still running — don't wait for them to look back.
