The Fade Route Drill
Route Runningadvanced15 min2+ players
Description
The fade is the most demanding route in flag football — it requires a perfect throw, perfect release timing, and WR willingness to go up and get the ball. This drill builds that connection and teaches WRs to trust the throw.
Instructions
- WR lines up at the LOS.
- WR pushes straight upfield then angles toward the sideline.
- QB throws a high arcing pass to the back shoulder.
- WR looks back over outside shoulder and goes up for the ball.
- WR secures the catch at the highest point.
Points to Stress
- Push the defender with your speed — don't curve early.
- Look over your OUTSIDE shoulder — not inside.
- Go UP and get the ball — don't wait for it to come to you.
- QB: throw to the back shoulder, not ahead.
