Gauntlet — Through Traffic
DrillDescription
The middle of the field in flag football is where games are decided. This drill simulates multiple defenders converging in a narrow corridor, teaching runners to trust their speed and commit to one fast move instead of dancing around.
How to run it
- 1
Set up 6 cones in two parallel lines, 2-3 yards apart, forming a tunnel 10-15 yards long.
- 2
Defenders stand outside the cones with feet planted — they cannot move their feet.
- 3
Ball carrier runs through the tunnel at full speed.
- 4
Defenders reach in to pull the flag from the sides.
- 5
Runner focuses on one well-timed, fast move to avoid the grab.
- 6
Rotate runners and defenders.
Points to stress
- Speed is your weapon — do not slow down in the tunnel.
- One decisive move — do not zigzag the whole way.
- Keep the ball tight and high through the tunnel.
- Defenders: feet planted. Reach in and simulate game pressure.
