The Screen Drill
QB fakes downfield, then dumps off a short screen pass to a receiver drifting behind the LOS into the flat — working the misdirection timing that makes screens dangerous.
The Screen Drill
DrillDescription
A well-executed screen is one of the hardest plays to defend in flag football. This drill builds the acting, timing, and acceleration out of the catch that make a screen go for big yards.
How to run it
- 1
QB takes snap and fakes a look downfield.
- 2
Screen receiver (WR or RB) drifts casually behind the LOS into the flat.
- 3
QB dumps off the short pass to the screen receiver.
- 4
Screen receiver catches the ball and turns upfield immediately.
- 5
Add a defender for live coverage reps.
Points to stress
- QB: sell the downfield look. Make the defense commit.
- Screen receiver: drift casually — don't run a route. You're acting like you're not involved.
- On the catch: TURN NORTH immediately — not east-west.
- This play works because of deception, not athleticism.
