Easy Ups / Sideline Out-Route

Receivingintermediate15 min2+ players

Description

Catching high, back-shoulder throws near the sideline is one of the most game-specific skills a receiver can develop. This drill builds the ability to adjust to an arcing pass and secure it while in motion near the boundary.

Instructions

  1. WR lines up at the LOS.
  2. WR runs down the sideline for 8-10 yards.
  3. WR cuts sharply outward (toward the sideline).
  4. QB throws a high arcing ball to the cut spot.
  5. WR leans back, looks up, and catches the ball.

Points to Stress

  • Lean into the catch — trust your balance.
  • Keep your eyes on the ball through the entire arc.
  • Secure the ball high before coming down.
  • Don't break stride to look — find the ball while running.
