Slant Route Drill
DrillDescription
The slant is one of the most reliable routes in flag football — fast, hard to defend, and always open against aggressive man coverage. This drill builds the plant-and-drive technique that makes a slant a dangerous weapon.
How to run it
- 1
WR lines up at the LOS.
- 2
WR takes 3 hard steps off the line.
- 3
WR plants on outside foot and cuts at 45° toward the middle.
- 4
WR snaps head around immediately to find the ball.
- 5
QB throws on the break.
- 6
WR catches in stride and accelerates.
Points to stress
- Drive off your OUTSIDE foot on the break.
- Head fake before the cut — give the defender a reason to go the wrong way.
- Snap your head around fast — find the ball immediately.
- Catch it in stride — don't slow down to make the catch.
