Why It Matters

Hand-drawn scribbles lose players. Clear diagrams keep them.

Most youth coaches are not short on plays — they are short on a way to show them. A napkin sketch or a whiteboard photo gets confusing fast. A clean, color-coded diagram lets every player see exactly where to line up and where to run.

  • Drag-and-drop field canvas built for fast play design, not fighting the tool
  • Route editing with cuts, breaks, and arrows that read clearly on paper
  • Color coding and labels so players instantly find their assignment
  • A free account saves the set into a playbook you can print and share with coaches

Coaching Headaches

Players can't read my whiteboard photos.

I redraw the same play every single week.

My plays live in five different notebooks.

I can't get a clean copy onto a wristband.

How it works

How to design a flag football play

Four steps from a blank field to a diagram your team can run. The same flow works for 5v5, 6v6, and 7v7.

  1. Step 1

Start from a template or a blank field

Pick 5v5, 6v6, or 7v7 and start from a blank field or a public play template. No signup. You can keep up to four plays in this browser, one format at a time.

  2. Step 2

    Place your players

Drag players into place on the field and set the formation. A blank field starts on offense. Defensive plays come from Use a template.

  3. Step 3

    Draw the routes

Sketch stems, cuts, and breaks, then color-code and label each assignment so every player can find their job.

  4. Step 4

    Download, print, or save

Download a PNG or print the play you are viewing, with no account. Save to my playbook puts the set into a new playbook on a free account, where you can print the playbook and invite coaches. Wristband inserts are part of Pro.

Design plays alongside the rest of your coaching system.

The plays you draw feed everything else — the practices you plan, the lineups you set, and the sheets you bring to game day. Start from a template or a blank field, then put your plays to work.

FAQ

Flag football play designer questions

Is the flag football play designer free?

Yes. You can design plays on this page with no account and no credit card. Drawing routes, downloading a PNG, and printing the play on screen are free. A free account saves plays into a playbook and can print that playbook. Wristband printing is Pro at $5 a month, and you do not need Pro to design plays.

Do I need an account to use the play creator?

No. This play maker runs in the browser with no signup. Choose 5v5, 6v6, or 7v7, start from a blank field or a public play template, and draw up to four plays. Offense and defense templates are both available. The plays stay in this browser. An account is only for saving them into a playbook.

Can I save my plays?

On this page, plays are kept in this browser. The editor marks them saved in this browser. They are not on a FlagSketch account until you choose Save to my playbook (the button says Save on a phone). That creates a free account if you need one and puts the plays into a new playbook. If you are already signed in, the same button saves them straight into a playbook. At four plays you can replace one and keep drawing without an account. If the browser clears site data, plays that were not saved to a playbook go with it, so download a PNG or save when you want to keep them.

Which flag football formats does the play creator support?

5v5, 6v6, and 7v7. The field starts with the right number of players for the format you pick. On this page you work in one format at a time. Switching format replaces the plays in this browser unless you save them to a playbook first.

Can I print wristbands from the plays I design?

Not from this page. Here you can download a PNG or print the play you are viewing. Wristband inserts are printed from a saved playbook and are part of Pro at $5 a month. Printing the playbook itself is free with an account.

Can I share plays with players and parents?

This page does not create a share link. Download the PNG or print the play to hand to players and parents. A free account can invite other coaches to view or edit a shared team. Players and parents do not get a login to the play designer.

Does the play designer work on a phone or tablet?

Yes, in the mobile browser. On a phone, Start drawing opens the editor full screen so you can place players and draw routes without installing an app. The iPhone and Android apps are sideline viewers for playbooks you already saved. Drawing new plays stays on the website.
