Static Moves Drill

Drill
Avoid Each Static Defender

Description

Before expecting evasive moves at full game speed, players need to build the muscle memory in a controlled setting. Static Moves gives ball carriers the reps to groove jukes, spins, and cuts without the chaos of live defense.

How to run it

  1. 1

Set up 3-4 cones in a line, 3-4 yards apart.

  2. 2

Runner starts at one end with flags on.

  3. 3

Defender positions themselves near the cones.

  4. 4

Runner moves through the cones, making one small evasive move at each cone (juke, spin, or cut).

  5. 5

Defender tries to pull the flag at each cone.

  6. 6

    Rotate after each rep.

Points to stress

  • Make your move decisive — hesitation gets your flag pulled.
  • One clean move per cone — do not chain 5 fakes.
  • Set up your move early, not at the last second.
  • Defender: be controlled — this is a learning drill, not a full-speed competition.
