Description

Boundary awareness is a football IQ skill that many players never consciously develop. By making the sideline 'dangerous', this drill forces players to learn exactly where the edge is — and practice making catches while managing it.

How to run it

  1. 1

Mark the sideline with cones — these are 'lava'.

  2. 2

Ball carrier or receiver runs routes near the sideline.

  3. 3

QB delivers throws near the boundary.

  4. 4

Player must catch the ball and stay inbounds.

  5. 5

Add a flag puller near the boundary for extra challenge.

Points to stress

  • Know your feet — spatial awareness is a skill, not an accident.
  • Catch first, then adjust your feet.
  • Don't look at the sideline while the ball is in the air.
  • The boundary is your friend as a receiver — use it to your advantage.
