Shotgun Rollout Throw
QB takes a shotgun snap, rolls out left or right, and throws to a still target then a moving target — building accuracy and body control while throwing on the move.
Shotgun Rollout Throw
DrillDescription
QBs in flag football rarely throw from a perfect pocket. This drill builds the arm accuracy and body control to deliver a catchable ball while rolling out — essential for scramble situations and broken-play throws.
How to run it
- 1
QB takes snap from center in shotgun.
- 2
QB rolls out left or right.
- 3
First rep: QB throws to a stationary target (cone or standing receiver).
- 4
Second rep: QB throws to a receiver running a route.
- 5
Focus on planting the back foot when possible before releasing.
- 6
Alternate left and right roll-outs each rep.
Points to stress
- Plant your back foot when you can — even on the run.
- Throw to a spot, not just in the general direction.
- Eyes downfield at all times — do not look at your feet.
- Build up: accuracy to a still target first, then a moving one.
