The Wrong Foot Drill
Players throw with their wrong foot forward to feel broken mechanics, then switch back — making proper form feel more intuitive by contrast.
The Wrong Foot Drill
DrillDescription
Sometimes the best way to fix bad habits is to feel what bad mechanics actually feel like. By throwing with the wrong foot forward, players become aware of how it feels strange — making those elements more conscious when they switch back to the normal motion.
How to run it
- 1
Players pair up 5-8 yards apart.
- 2
Players throw with their wrong foot forward for 2 minutes.
- 3
Coach calls out what feels different: elbow, hip rotation, balance.
- 4
Players switch back to their normal foot forward.
- 5
Focus on what changed and apply those feelings to proper mechanics.
Points to stress
- Notice what feels wrong — elbow, hip, follow-through.
- Now switch back and feel what RIGHT feels like.
- Mechanics matter because your body has to repeat them automatically.
- This drill makes the unconscious conscious.
