Description

This simple warm-up packs in 30-40 catches per player before the real work starts. It gives coaches an early look at throwing mechanics and hand-eye coordination while getting both QBs and receivers into a throwing rhythm.

How to run it

  1. 1

Players pair up and stand facing each other.

  2. 2

Start 5-10 yards apart based on player age and ability.

  3. 3

On the coach's signal, begin throwing and catching.

  4. 4

After 2-3 minutes, have one side step back 3-5 yards.

  5. 5

Continue. Repeat the step-back one more time.

  6. 6

    Finish back at starting distance.

Points to stress

  • Keep the football tight — laces away from palm.
  • Step into every throw — don't arm it.
  • Follow through toward your target.
  • Eyes on the ball all the way into your hands.
