Description

Man coverage is the ultimate test of a defender's athleticism and technique. This drill builds the hip movement, footwork, and discipline to stay with a receiver through any route — and reinforces the habit of going for the flag, not the body.

How to run it

  1. 1

WR lines up at the LOS. DB lines up tight, inside leverage.

  2. 2

On the snap, WR runs any route.

  3. 3

DB mirrors the WR's hips, staying within arm's length.

  4. 4

No grabbing — stay with technique.

  5. 5

When the ball is thrown, DB turns and goes for the ball if they can and flag if they are not close enough.

  6. 6

Run multiple route types to build versatility.

Points to stress

  • Stay between the WR and the QB — that's your job.
  • Mirror the HIPS, not the shoulders or head — hips don't lie.
  • Don't turn your back to the QB.
  • When the ball is thrown, GO for the flag immediately.
