High Point Drill
WR and a defender line up together — defender distracts at 3/4 speed while QB throws to the highest point, training receivers to go up and get contested balls.
High Point Drill
DrillDescription
The ability to win a contested catch at the highest point separates elite receivers from average ones. This drill builds the mental and physical toughness to attack the ball regardless of nearby pressure.
How to run it
- 1
QB stands in the middle of the field.
- 2
WR lines up on the outside edge, defender lines up inside and slightly behind the WR.
- 3
QB calls hike.
- 4
Defender runs at 3/4 speed toward the WR to create distraction — no contact.
- 5
QB throws a high pass to the WR's maximum reach point.
- 6
WR goes up and catches the ball at its peak.
- 7
Rotate WR and defender.
Points to stress
- Find the ball first — do not watch the defender.
- Go UP for it — every time. Do not wait for it to come down.
- Defender: distract only, do not interfere. This is a timing and focus drill.
- Your highest point beats the defender every time.
