Comeback / Curl Route Drill
WR runs a hard vertical stem, then stops and comes back toward the LOS (comeback) or curls to face the QB (curl), forcing the QB to deliver before the WR fully stops.
Comeback / Curl Route Drill
DrillDescription
The curl and comeback are timing routes — they only work when the QB and WR are in sync. This drill builds that timing and trains receivers to use their stem to move defenders deep before coming back to the ball.
How to run it
- 1
WR lines up at the LOS.
- 2
WR runs hard vertical for 10-12 yards.
- 3
WR plants and curls back to face the QB (curl) or drives back toward LOS (comeback).
- 4
QB sets and delivers as WR is making the break.
- 5
WR presents hands immediately on the turn.
Points to stress
- Run the defender DEEP first — make them respect your speed.
- Stop with purpose — don't drift back.
- Turn and show your hands immediately.
- QB: throw before they fully stop — lead them slightly.
