Out / In Route Drill
DrillDescription
The out and in routes are the building blocks of every route tree. This drill builds the habit of running at full speed before the break and making a sharp 90° cut — the fundamentals every receiver needs before learning more advanced routes.
How to run it
- 1
WR lines up at the LOS.
- 2
WR runs straight at full speed for 5-8 yards.
- 3
WR plants and cuts sharply to the sideline (out route).
- 4
QB throws to the break point.
- 5
Repeat as an in route (cut toward the middle).
- 6
Alternate out and in each set.
Points to stress
- Get to FULL SPEED before the break — don't decelerate.
- Break at 90° — not a gradual curve.
- Shoulder square to sideline on an out; square to QB on an in.
- Snap your head around fast to find the ball.
