Post / Corner Route Drill

WR runs a vertical stem then breaks inward (post) or outward (corner), working deep timing and back-shoulder throw mechanics with the QB.

Description

Post and corner routes attack the deep part of the field and require precise timing between QB and WR. This drill develops the footwork to sell a go-route before breaking — and trains QBs to throw with anticipation on deep patterns.

How to run it

  1. 1

WR lines up at the LOS.

  2. 2

WR runs hard vertical for 8-10 yards.

  3. 3

WR plants and breaks toward the goalpost (post) or the corner (corner).

  4. 4

QB throws with anticipation — ball is in the air before WR completes the break.

  5. 5

Alternate post and corner each rep.

Points to stress

  • Sell the go-route first — the defender has to respect your speed.
  • Plant and cut on your outside foot.
  • QB: back shoulder on corner, lead inside on post.
  • Throw it while they're still running — don't wait for them to look back.
