Post / Corner Route Drill
WR runs a vertical stem then breaks inward (post) or outward (corner), working deep timing and back-shoulder throw mechanics with the QB.
Post / Corner Route Drill
DrillDescription
Post and corner routes attack the deep part of the field and require precise timing between QB and WR. This drill develops the footwork to sell a go-route before breaking — and trains QBs to throw with anticipation on deep patterns.
How to run it
- 1
WR lines up at the LOS.
- 2
WR runs hard vertical for 8-10 yards.
- 3
WR plants and breaks toward the goalpost (post) or the corner (corner).
- 4
QB throws with anticipation — ball is in the air before WR completes the break.
- 5
Alternate post and corner each rep.
Points to stress
- Sell the go-route first — the defender has to respect your speed.
- Plant and cut on your outside foot.
- QB: back shoulder on corner, lead inside on post.
- Throw it while they're still running — don't wait for them to look back.
